On March 31, 2025, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue city issued Decision No. 854/QD-UBND on approving the non-refundable aid which is separated from the official funding of the project themed “Cung len tieng bao ve loai Sao La va cac he sinh thai vi thien nhien va con nguoi” (Let’s speak up to protect the Saola and ecosystems for nature and people) sponsored by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) - Switzerland. The total funding granted was VND 3.116.647.000 (three billion, one hundred sixteen million, six hundred forty-seven thousand Vietnamese dong).
The project aims to improve the capacity and the involvement of social organizations in preserving biodiversity, protecting Saola, raising public awareness to support wildlife management and protection policies. These are expected to contribute to stopping illegal wildlife trade in Hue and support the national strategy for biodiversity to 2030, vision to 2050.
In late June 2025, the capacity and involvement of social organizations, local communities and relevant parties are supposed to be improved to effectively support policies on managing and protecting wildlife, stopping illegal wildlife trade in Hue city. In late September 2025, the message of the role and efforts made by Vietnam in preserving biodiversity and wildlife is hoped to be spread through activities and a workshop on ethics towards the environment, biodiversity preservation and wildlife protection. At the end of June 2026, Saola protection is expected to be maintained in Saola Nature Reserve by conducting patrol, equipping devices and exchange lessons learned.
It is clearly stated in this Decision that the project manager is the People's Committee of Hue city while the project owner is the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
