On June 6, 2020, Hue University and Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee co-hosted the dialogue meeting on career orientation in the field of information technology with high school students. At the meeting, together with special presences of Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Province, Mr. Phan Thien Dinh, Vice Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong, Hue University Vice President and representatives of Hue University’s member universities, departments, and enterprises, there was also the participation of more than 450 local high school students and IT teachers.
According to the Plan defined by Thua Thien Hue Province, in order to meet the provincial development requirement, there will be more than 10.000 labors working in the field of IT in 2025. However, the statistics showed that in 2019, the number of students enrolling in IT major only accounted for 6.5 – 6.7%. Thus, to achieve the set target, there should be a sustainable and effective collaboration in IT training between the training institution and the labor market.
Speaking the meeting, Chairman Phan Ngoc Tho affirmed that the province has chosen IT as the major breakthrough for the local economic development, therefore, a favorable environment will be created to call the investment from large IT enterprises to Thua Thien Hue.
One of the advantages is Hue University has 6 institutions offering quality IT training programs. Since 1995, there have been 12,000 bachelors, 50.000 technicians, 700 master, and 10 Ph.D. who have graduated from Hue University in the field of IT. In addition, many Hue University lecturers have had chances to study, research, and work in countries like the U.S., Japan, Germany, France, Austria…where the IT has highly developed.

At the meeting, the issues relating to IT students’ internship, the employability policy for IT students, and the IT teaching program at high schools have been openly and straightly discussed. Other ideas on recruitment needs, possibility in training cooperation, and employment commitment for IT students also have been shared by the enterprises’ representatives.
